Call for Volunteers - Accounting Careers Awareness Program (ACAP)

 ACAP is a program for high school students to learn more about accounting and business careers.  The ACAP program will be held on the campus of UNCC the week of July 15th (Sunday to Friday). We are in need of Professional and Student Members to volunteer and help with preparing our high school students for success.   

The following time slots are available:

Sunday, July 15th 8pm–9:30pm – Group Project Introduction (5 slots):  NABA Project leader will introduce the Group Project, break students up into teams & teams will assess each other's talents/interest and brainstorm ideas of what business they want to create.  Project Leaders (2 slots)/ Mentors (3 slots)

Monday, July 16th 2pm–3:30pm - Organizational Phase (6 slots):  NABA project leader gives overview of what they will need to complete in the Organizational phase. Groups meet to brainstorm ideas, review and confirm individual assignments, Complete Assignment, Submit Checklist/Ideas to NABA volunteer. Volunteers review and turn in check list to NABA Project leader. Project Leader (1 slot)/ Mentors (5 slots)

Monday, July 16th 3:30pm-4:30pm – Introduction to Business Majors (1 Student slot):  This session will introduce students to the different college majors that the field of business can offer. 

Monday, July 16th 4:30pm-5:30pm – Networking/Self-Assessment (1 Professional slot):  This session will give students an overview of what is networking and why it's important (including social networking, elevator speech, and email etiquette). Also review a self-assessment (how do you learn and communicate). 

Monday, July 16th 7pm-9pm – Fashion Show (7 slots):  "What Not To Wear - The Do's and Don'ts of Business Professional and Business Casual attire." Facilitator (1 slot)/ Volunteers (6 slots)  

Tuesday, July 17th- Marketing Phase 9am-10:30am (6 slots) or 10:30am-12pm (6 slots):  NABA Project leader gives overview of what they will need to complete in the Marketing phase. Begin to Introduce Financial Statements. Discuss marketing strategies, complete assigned tasks, and submit marketing checklists to NABA volunteer.  Volunteers review and turn in check list to NABA Project leader. Project Leaders (2 slots)/ Mentors (10 slots)

Tuesday, July 17th 1:30pm-3:30pm - Interview/Resume Workshop (11 slots): Interview/Resume Workshop - Teach students how to build a resume, skills on how to interview and provide mock interviews students. Facilitator (1 slot)/ Volunteers (10 slots)

Tuesday, July 17th 6pm-9pm – Etiquette Dinner (7 slots):  Dinner Presenter to show case "Do's and Don'ts" of corporate dining. Mentors to help facilitate table discussions. Facilitators (2 slots)/ Mentors (5 slots)

Wednesday, July 18th 4pm-5:30 pm – Financial phase (4 slots):  NABA Project leader gives overview of what they will need to complete in the financial phase. Discuss financial statements, complete assigned tasks, and submit financial checklists to NABA volunteer.  Volunteers review and turn in check list to NABA Project leader.  Project Leader (1 slot)/ Mentors (3 slots)  

Thursday, July 19th - Finishing Touches and Rehearsal and Critique 9 am-11am (6 slots) or 11am-12 noon (4 slots): Each group will determine what sections need more information, working on finalizing project. Volunteers will assist with Critiques of presentations as students rehearse and prepare to present to judges (next day). Project Leaders (2 slots)/ Mentors (8 slots)

Thursday, July 19th 1:30pm-3pm – Group Project Presentation (5 Professional slots):  Groups to present there company in front of a panel of judges 

Thursday, July 19th 3pm-5 pm – Professional Panel Discussion (6 Professional slots):  A panel of professionals to describe their professional careers and where a business degree can take a person. Facilitator (1 slot)/ Panelists (5 slots)  

Thursday, July 19th 5:30pm-9pm – Closing Dinner; Greeters are needed as well as NABA mentors at each table (ACAP volunteers, UNCC and corporate partners):  Reception of program/awards. 

Friday, July 20th 9am-12pm – Service Project Facilitators (2 slots) 

Please RSVP for this event no later than Friday, June 15th, 2012.  RSVP is required as UNCC will perform background checks on all volunteers working with students. Please note in the 'Organization' line the date and time slot that you would be able to assist.
